SU vs. Army Recap

Posted Monday, February 27, 2006 by John Desko

Good news, our Orange are 1-0 with a win this past weekend over #15 Army 14-10 in the Dome. I was at the game so I will do my best to give you some points that I took away from the contest.

Middies:

The freshmen squad did a nice job in there first game; Nims had a goal, Hardy (I would like to see him get the ball more) had a goal and assist, Abbott had 2 goals. They seemed to step up when the time was needed for us. I think that they underutilized Perritt in the 2nd half, he has a great 1st step and is basically unstoppable with that step.

At the face-off X we will need to get better when we play against better teams. This will be a huge part of those up coming games.

All-American Greg Rommel had his usual quiet but solid game, this guy never really hurts us in any game and that is what makes him so valuable and so good.

Attack:

Our transfer from Virginia, Yevoli, had a solid game; he carries the ball well and scored a few goals. He seems to be the one that took the ball to the goal the most on the attack. Brett Bucktooth was solid as usual; he is a great shooter and a smart overall player.

Defense:

Panarellli had a decent game against the 1st Team AA John Walker, Walker did end the game with 6 points (2-4), but he did not beat him 1-on-1. I think that holding this team to 10 goals was OK. In the future they need to be able to hold more powerful offenses to this and we should be fine. But as a unit they improved as the game progressed.

Goalie:

Collucci started and had a decent game. I am sure he was nervous with his first start. He needs to work on this off-stick side, which is where most of the goals were scored by Army.

Overall I would rate the entire team play as a: B

They need some work, but they have no time to waste because this weekend they travel to UVA for a huge early season contest.

I would liked to have seen them run more because we are more athletic that most of the teams we play.

On a side note, it was good to have seen the Powell Bros get honored at halftime with the Chancellor Award.

And it was also good to see a few Alumni at the game.

Go Cuse,

Ric
