Posted Monday, March 01, 2010 by Tim Byrnes

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The top-ranked Orange swept the BIG EAST Player of the Week honors announced by the conference on Monday, March 1. Senior Chris Daniello was tabbed the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, while classmate Matt Tierney was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week for their roles in SU’s 12-7 win against Army on Feb. 28.

Daniello led the Orange with a career-high four goals against the Black Knights. He tallied three goals in the first half to propel the Orange to a 5-2 halftime lead. Daniello tacked on another goal in a 4-0 Orange run during the third and fourth quarters that broke open a tie game. He also forced two turnovers and had a ground ball.

Tierney paced Syracuse at the opposite end of the field. He matched up against Army leading goal-scorer, Garrett Thul, and helped hold the rookie attackman to one goal, which came while Syracuse was man-down. Tierney also had three ground balls.

Daniello, Tierney and the rest of the Orange face their first road test of the year this weekend. Syracuse will take on No. 2 Virginia in Charlottesville on Sunday, March 7.
