UMass vs. The Cuse at UMass Recap

Posted Thursday, May 19, 2005 by John Desko

The streak is over. Yesterday we lost to Umass is a great game, 16-15. But there is nothing to be upset about!

22 Straight Final 4 appearances is one of the most historic streaks in all of college sports. Some of us were part of it and others paved the way for it. Either way, we need to take a look at it and be as proud as ever. All good things come to an end. This Streak will start up again next season with a trip back to the Final 4 and it will continue on for hopefully another 23 years to break the record we set. Regardless of how this season ended I am proud of this team and what they achieved. Think about it, in 4 or less years, these players will be on this list and they will be proud of every team that comes after them as are we.

SO next year we return the entire starting attack, most of the 1st midfield, and 2 of 3 of the close defense. Yes, we do lose our goalie, but I have faith that someone will step right in and leave off were he left. Our recruiting class coming in is loaded with the 3 top players in the US. They will be an impact right away.

This season was a season of firsts for us as Alumni as we started to finally get to know each other, even if it is via email. I think we are taking the right steps in setting up an Alumni network that will become the strongest there is in the lacrosse world. Fellow Alumnus, Tim Byrnes, has been working on a great website designed specifically for us to use. He will get me the details I am sure as the site gets perfected. The internet is a great tool for all of us to come together.

Here are the stats to Sunday?s game:

Well, it is with a heavy heart, but with tons of pride, that I leave you on my last re-cap of the 2005 season. It has been my pleasure to have been able to send this email to all of you. I encourage us to all still communicate during the off season with any news or info that you may have.

And you can bet I will be seeing some of you in the off-season while on my business travels.
